New Haven Chapter Project 7
Following open heart surgery and an operation to amputate both of his legs, Mrs. Rhodes had to use her medical leave to care for her husband while he convalesced at home. She had to return to work to start paying bills again and because of that, the State of Connecticut disqualified them for any assistance to replace the inoperable furnace. The Rhodes were turned down for Veteran’s benefits as well. Since their home was without heat and using electric space heaters to heat the home was raising the electric bill, time was of the essence, especially with winter on its way. These folks had been turned away by everybody and were skeptical as to why your organization is so generous. Mr. Rhodes has been through so much and his optimism remains – but in his final thank you paragraph to Oil Heat Cares he writes, “When God sends people like these into your life, you don’t have to worry”.
