Central PA Chapter Project 1
A week before Christmas and 15 Shipley Energy employees proudly pose after completing an Oil Heat Cares Project Baby Brandon can be assured of a warm and comfortable home compliments of Oil Heat Cares.(Front left to right – Tom, Brandon and Crystal and Barry; Back Row: Pat Carey, a York Realtor, Judy Garber and Dave Yates) Barry Jacobs (center) and Tom Sease (standing) explain to Crystal how her new Weil-Mclain Boiler operates.
Oil Heat Cares to the rescue - folks ask how can I get involved. This is a great example of the project coming to you. The realtor was able to help a young lady purchase her first home. The clock was ticking. Crystal was due to have her baby early January. The old heating unit - a Timken Wallflame oil-fired coal/oil conversion was installed in 1946 and it was shot. Fumes were entering the house; not a good environment for a pregnant lady. (By the way, it just so happens that Shipley had the original paperwork for this original installation.) A friend of the Industry, Dave Yates, a local plumbing contractor contacted Oil Heat Cares and suggested maybe we'd like to get involved.

Bob Hopkins, Weil-McLain, stepped up to the plate and made a trip to York, PA to size the job and gets the needed boiler. Next we needed to get the chapter interested and before we knew it Shipley Energy spearheaded the project. They asked their union if they were willing to donate labor and the rest is history.

As mentioned, the clock was ticking - Baby Brandon decided to come early. The day before the scheduled job was to take place; she went into labor and delivered a 5 pound baby boy.
