It all began with a phone call. Joseph Albani, a NAOHSM Scholarship winner and employee of J.S. Shea Fuel, answered a service call to the home of Mr. Decessaris, MA. Upon arriving at the home, Joseph identified the problem as a major one for the family. The heat exchanger was bad and the unit needed to be replaced. As he visited with the family he learned that the owner of the home, Donald was in the hospital recovering from a lung infection. The more he listened the more he learned that this family was in need. Donald was on disability due to a kidney disease. While on dialysis, he also helped care for his diabetic wife and special needs step-son. After seven years, Donald received a kidney transplant. While recovering, he contracted a bacterial lung infection and has been in the hospital since February 2005.
Joseph talked to his boss, Kevin Shea who just so happens to be an Oil Heat Cares director and they decided to install a new heater in the home of Mr. Decessaris.
